Amos Serem Qualifies for the 3000m Final After A Successful Appeal

Amos Serem has qualified for the 3000m steeplechase final after successfully making an appeal to the authorities of the 2024 Olympics. The 21-year-old made a mistake while jumping a hurdle and had to redo it. Kenyastax.com explains how and why this happened to Amos Serem.

Amos Serem was among the leading pack in the 3000m steeplechase heat and maintained that position without any incident.

It was at the final lap that Amos Serem miscalculated a jump over a hurdle and landed awkwardly. He went back and retried the jump.

The young athlete however lost some ground while doing so and got overtaken by a lot of athletes. He never gave up and pushed to try and qualify but narrowly missed out after finishing sixth in that heat.

It was an impressive finish and Kenyans applauded him for managing to finish sixth despite losing so much ground after that incident.

Amos Serem made an appeal to the Olympics referee saying that he was pushed by a fellow athlete while approaching the hurdle. After a review by the authorities, Amos Serem qualified for the 3000m finals.

In the second heat, there was no such drama for Abraham Kibiwott who finished 3rd and booked his place in the final.

Simon Koech also finished third in the final heat of the 3000m steeplechase to book his place in the final.

All three Kenyan athletes are in the 3000m steeplechase final aiming to bring the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals home.

The 3000m steeplechase final will take place on Wednesday, August 7th 2024 at 22:43 Kenyan time(EAT).
